Ashoka

Most of the restaurants we passed by during our stay in Berlin’s Charlottenburg neighborhood were mid-range or pricey. This posh zone of west Berlin is known for chic cafes and designer boutiques. That’s why we were a bit surprised to come across Ashoka, a very reasonably priced Indian restaurant right off Savignyplatz.

Ashoka was packed on the Thursday night we were there, and due to nice weather, most people were seating on the outside terrace. We chose a table inside in the back, which also quickly filled up. Ashoka serves traditional fare that you’d expect at an Indian food spot: samosas, nann, daal, and all sorts of curries. Each main dish came with rice and salad. We opted for two curries and pakoras, plus a salty lassie.

The low price at Ashoka is probably due to the decor, which is jumbled and minimal. Ashoka could also use a fresh coat of paint inside and out. Still, the food was tasty and the wait staff was very prompt and friendly.
